Bio-Oil is a specialist skin care product which will help to improve the appearance of scars, stretch marks, uneven skin tone and dehydration.
For best results, Bio-Oil should be applied twice daily for at least 3 months.
Oils have always been the most effective agent for the treatment and care of the skin, but due to their thick consistency were not very skin friendly. For years scientists searched for a solution to this problem. In the end it was the study of the preening habit of ducks which provided the clue. When preening, preen gland oil is secreted from the preen gland and distributed over the feathers. The duck does this funny twisted neck action, if you've ever noticed!

A scar is a growth of collagen that forms as a natural part of the healing process following an injury to the skin. While a scar will go through numerous changes as it matures, it will never attain the normal strength of the surrounding skin. Hair follicles and sweat glands at the scar site will not grow back.
When an injury to the skin occurs, the body acts as quickly as possible to repair the affected area, devoting its energy and resources to healing quickly rather than perfectly. As a result, there is an overproduction of collagen at the site of the wound which leads to scarring.

It is interesting to know that men regard their scars as status symbols whereas women are much more self-conscious and wear clothing to conceal theirs.
Young man: Fell over whilst playing football and cut his knee 2 days ago.
Advice: The wound is still healing. Bio-Oil should not be used on this wound yet.
Wait until the knee is fully healed and the skin is not broken.
Consumer: Burned her arm on an iron over 5 years ago. Skin has healed but she is now left with a brown pigmented mark on the arm.
Advice: Bio-Oil can help with this problem. Advise that Bio-Oil is applied twice daily for a minimum of three months for results to be seen.
9 month old baby: Baby has recently had chicken pox. One of the spots has left a scar above the eye.
Advice: Bio-Oil is recommended to be used on children above the age of two, due to a small percentage of synthetic fragrance which may cause sensitivity on a younger skin.
Teenage girl: Young girl who has previously suffered from acne and was left with scarring on the face would like to use Bio-Oil to reduce the scars but is worried Bio-Oil will cause acne to come back.
Advice: Bio-Oil is safe for use on acne scars. Bio-Oil has been independently tested and proven to be a non-comedogenic product, which means that it does not cause acne or spots. Bio-Oil can be used on the skin on both the face and body without concern for breakouts.

Stretch marks form when skin tissue tears when it is stretched. This often happens during periods of rapid weight gain, for example during pregnancy.
Pregnant skin also contains high levels of a hormone that attracts water, relaxing the bonds between the collagen fibres and making the skin tissue more susceptible to tearing. While they pose no risk at all, many women have concerns about their appearance.
Survey of 3,000 men and women, carried out by One Poll, March 2011
Confidence survey of 7,000 UK women (March 2012)
Stretch marks generally become visible during the last trimester of
pregnancy and develop most commonly on the abdomen, breasts,
thighs, hips, lower back and buttocks.
Age – Interestingly, it has been found that as you get older, you are less likely to develop stretch marks*
Genes – Studies show that if your mother was prone to stretch marks in all likelihood you would be too. In the same study it was found that 81% of women with pregnancy stretch marks had pre-existing stretch marks*

A single application of Bio-Oil was assessed for its ability to improve stratum corneum (top layer of the skin) barrier function and hydration against a reference oil.
After immediate application, both oils reduced transepidermal water loss (TEWL). Two hours later, after wiping the oils from the skin's surface, Bio-Oil showed further increased TEWL values compared to the reference oil, indicating increased moisture release and therefore increased skin hydration
